“You have to be very focused and regular when you are a make-up artist”- Avantika

Make-up found Avantika, more than she did. Avantika stumbled upon make-up and now she is obsessed with it. She started as a fashion blogger and later came into make-up. Earlier, whenever she goes out for an event, people used to compliment her for her makeup and style. They always suggested she make tutorial videos for make-up. Even some photographers used to offer her to hire them to photograph her.

Once Soumya Gupta on Instagram did a giveaway contest. So the rules were to use only 3 makeup products and create a look, in which Avantika participated and also won it. That particular thing really boosted her confidence. People started recognizing her and motivated her to do more of those videos. Everyone really loved and appreciated her work. Big creators started approaching her to do their makeup. That is when she realized that maybe she can pursue this as a career and start doing more of such videos on her Instagram page.

Earlier I did not have a good phone. So whatever look I used to create the camera just ruined it. The quality of the picture was not good at all. The looks I used to create comes out completely different on that phone, which really disheartened me. I always felt that the phone never gave justice to the amount of hard work I put into a particular look.

She started creating make-up videos last year only. Earlier when she was into fashion her pictures used to do really well. Those pictures got a good amount of reach as compared to the make-up videos. Although her videos currently do not get the required amount of likes and views, she still loves doing it and will continue doing so. As that is something she enjoys doing and that brings her a lot of happiness, so she does not care about views and likes anymore.

I get my inspiration from Shreya Jain who is a famous beauty influencer. She is amazing, I really love her work and I am a big fan of her, to be honest. I like how relatable she is with the audience. She makes videos that everyone can practice and also relate to. Her work has a different charm altogether. But I get my inspiration from anyone and everyone. If I see someone do good makeup I try to copy and learn from it. So my inspiration literally comes from everywhere.

She is currently doing her M.A in English from Utkal University. She is very much into literature. Avantika is an avid reader, she loves reading books and also researching different political issues. Besides that she also loves dancing.

According to her, it is a little difficult to work with an agency than on your own. As working with an agency gets a little restrictive sometimes. As there is no independence under an agency so they have less creative freedom.

You have to be very focused and regular when you are a makeup artist. Patience is the key according to me. As sometimes if you get impatient and finish quickly, then the entire look will get ruined. I take around 3-4 hours for a particular look and I have to be completely focused or else the output of that look will come something different. It is also very difficult to shorten that 3 hours of hard work to just 30 seconds as you would want everything in it.

She advised putting on sunscreen every day you go out because that is extremely important for your skin. Secondly, she also mentioned that before you buy a foundation you first need to understand your skin. Realize what it demands, or else you will end up buying the wrong foundation which will eventually not suit the person.  According to Avantika, people need to first research properly and choose a makeup product as that is something very important.

I do not like using a lot of filters. If you see my videos they are very raw, I just like keeping them authentic. But that is just something which I like to do although, I appreciate others who use filters. But I personally just don’t like using them. My signature look definitely includes my eyeliner, I love using them and playing different styles with eyeliner. In my old phone, I automatically somehow looked really fair that is why a lot of people used to criticize me saying that I use a lot of filters or I am completely fake.

Her mother is Gorkha Nepali, so Avantika also somehow looks like her mother. But people always passed racist comments on her saying that you are not from India. Some people also tell her that her country is the reason to spread corona although she is from India, she has always faced such nasty discrimination. This angers her a lot.

Being a beauty blogger, rejection is always a part of life. I approach a lot of brands but some are there who just seen zone me or reject me. I mostly do not care about it because I know that there must be something better waiting for me in the future. So, it is all about trying and not giving up. When you enter this industry, you need to make yourself used to all these rejections or else you will end up breaking your heart every time. But I get really anxious when something does not go according to how I planned. I just start crying for some time but later I pull myself up and start working again.

Avantika will love to work with Sabyasachi one day. She appreciates their work a lot and would love to get featured as a model for them. That is a dream which she aims to achieve. She would also love to collaborate with Lizzie someday in the future as she really loves her work.

In the future when she has financial stability she really wants to work for old age people and orphans. It really boils her blood when she sees old people being left alone by their children and are not been taken care of. Her heart melts with sadness when she sees some orphan kids not getting food or bare essentials, which is every kid’s right.

Being a beauty blogger has boosted her confidence a lot. Because 2 to 3 years before. She would not have been even able to do this interview but now she feels very strong and confident because of this industry.
