“Modeling Helped Me Unlearn Beauty Standards”, Fashion Model, Gauthami Jeji

Meet Gauthami Jeji a young fashion model from Bangalore. This young confident woman is working hard towards her passion each and every day. Therefore, she is hustling hard to achieve milestones in her career. Besides being a fashion model, Gauthami is currently majoring in theatre and English. Besides, she is also a theatre artist, actor, and spiritual counselor.

“I have always known I liked art and the many forms of art. I also knew I belonged in front of the camera from a very young age. It simply contributes to my joy.

I decided to become a model because I know how deeply this industry. It’s beauty standard effected the minds of people and how it needed more diversity and inclusivity.

This was the main reason apart from the fact one happen to be good at what one do”.

Her current agency, Ninjas Models spotted her on Instagram which initiated a completely new journey in her life. Hence, she is very grateful for that. Fortunately, Guathami neither has faced any rejections so far nor experienced any unexpected incidents. Moreover, she is very rebellious and particular about rights and safety. Adding to which she says,

“Exploitation in any kind of work place and industry is something that I strongly condemn. I truly hope that this changes soon and people are chosen purely based on their talent and skills”.

Gauthami was one hyperactive child. She has definitely evolved into a more empowered, confident, and self-loving woman over the years. Her perfect day off would probably involve lots of sleep. Gauthami keeps her skincare routine as simple and possible. She believes in less is more and tries to keep it minimal and balanced. A cleanser, a toner, serum, and a moisturizer are enough for her.

Gauthami has not kept herself limited to any specific type of modeling. Furthermore, she is extremely comfortable and dedicated to her work. Her first campaign was with Designer Gaurav Gupta in 2020. She considers her biggest modeling accomplishment so far, was when she walked for India and in Lakme fashion week for the first time. Talking about her experiences, Gauthami revealed,

“I think there is a certain thrill and excitement to every shoot. There is not one single shoot I do not like. So every campaign that I have been a part of has been very close to my heart.

If I find myself in a stressful situation I simply take three long deep breaths. This always works wonders”.

The most valuable thing Gauthami learned from modeling is confidence. She is currently well aware that confidence is truly what one needs. Gauthami’s confidence is visible on her face. Being young and new, she is really working exceptionally well. More than that, her works clearly speak about her hard work and talent. Her hope for a better world in the industry is her inspiration. ‘What is done in love, is done well’ by Vincent Van Gogh is her favorite quote.

Gauthami is highly optimistic and feels that if one thing does not work in our favor, we should not lose hope. Instead, we should be patient and work on ourselves. She ignores trolls, takes deep breaths, and move on. Also, she finds it worthless to respond to them and tries to stay positive. Sharing her experience in the industry, Gauthami says,

“Modelling has definitely help me unlearn the beauty standards. This has led to open more doors of opportunities in life. There are too many messages that need to be conveyed to the society. However, one simple one would be, live and let live”.
