The fashion and entertainment industry has dictated certain beauty standards since the beginning of time. However, in recent times, the industry has become quite realistic, encouraging models of all sizes, colors, and gender to make their way through.
Sobia Ameen is a jack of all trades! She is an architect, baker, model, content creator, and social activist. She recently shot for Masaba Gupta’s collection. The model is originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Sobia completed her architectural studies at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. While shooting the campaign, Sobia was overwhelmed by the kindness and warmness of everyone. Talking to Daily Star, she said, “Putting myself out on a global platform struck a chord with multiple people. In Bangladesh, we still have a long way to go, but the acceptance I received from multiple brands and media industries outside the home has truly put my self-worth into perspective”. She also said that this collaboration is special to her as her first designer saree was from the House of Masaba. The magazine Bedroom Journal also featured her.
Sobia uses her social media to talk about beauty notions and self-love, besides modeling and baking. She stated, “I am not saying that I am perfect but we cannot be setting unrealistic standards of beauty for future generations or the ones before and with us”.
