“Patience is the most important factor to be an actor.”, Vinayak Sinha

by Khushi Yadav / Tuesday, 03 August 2021 / Published in Interviews

Consistency is the road to success. That is what actor and model, Vinayak Sinha follows in his life and career. He has been in the industry for a decade now. Vinayak has worked as a creative director for three years after pursuing a master’s in filmmaking. Apart from acting and directing, he is also a fitness enthusiast and creates fitness-related content regularly. Vinayak loves exploring his creativity. Let us know what all Vinayak told us about his experiences till now.

Asking about his initial journey, Vinayak told that he came to Mumbai as a director and joined a couple of production houses as a creative director. After which he got an opportunity for anchoring on a well-known teleshopping channel Naaptol. Later he diversified into this field and joined an acting school. He has done more than 50 advertisement shoots till now. Coming from a law background, Vinayak said that he went to Symbiosis Law School in Pune but ended up pursuing a filmmaking course there.

“Initially, it was not at all easy to convince my family. That too convincing a lawyer, my dad, was not at all easy. But somehow I managed, though it took me a while. Post convincing them, it was never a problem. They all supported me then and do so now.”

Talking about dealing with criticism in professional life, Vinayak mentioned that you can never make everyone happy. At the beginning of his anchoring career, he faced a lot of criticism. People used to criticize him for being too loud. Eventually, he realized that criticism is a part of life, and you just need to take it on a positive note.

“Honestly, I don’t respond to it. I just laugh off and move away. I don’t feel like getting into that zone and also don’t want to affect my mental peace.”

Every individual faces rejection in their life so no one can avoid it. So, does Vinayak. He always knew before getting into the acting and modeling field that he has to do a lot of hard work to reach milestones and he has to face rejections.

“I always knew that rejections are going to be a part of this career. But how long it is going to be there IS what matters. So in the initial stage, I was fine with it for 1 or 2 months. But when the rejections keep on coming every second day it hurts more.

You go for an ad film audition, get through the top 3 and then get rejected. Then you start doubting yourself whether you took the right decision or not. Once in a blue moon, you feel that way and that is okay, it is part of life. Being into this field, you need to have a thick skin to survive in this industry.

Sharing an experience of being rejected recently, Vinayak says,

“I got finalized as a lead for a daily soap in a leading channel. Everything was finalized, I signed the confirmation letter and we were supposed to go for a 1-month workshop as well. We started preparing for that show, I was very excited that I got a show, a prime time show for the leading platforms and all. But post the seventh day, I received a call from the production house, saying that you have been replaced by a prominent actor and he was recommended by the channel itself.

That was really disappointing because getting a show and you start working and preparing for that role. You start expecting that, this is what I was looking for and this is the right break. Also, these things are not in our hands. So yes this made me upset but I bounced back.”

When asked about competition in the industry, Vinayak says that it is very much there along with favoritism. One should be ready to give their 100 percent efforts which is the only way out to survive in a competitive industry. Vinayak when deals with any such situation he tries to keep himself busy and does not let it affect himself.

“As I am into fitness, I hit the gym which is the best way to get out of that zone for at least a couple of hours whenever you are feeling low. When I am home I write content for fitness. That is how I keep myself busy and try to overcome all these hurdles.”

Vinayak has worked on a lot of acting projects till now. He recently appeared in a short film Yaari which streamed on Hungama Play. He has also featured in advertisements like Bajaj, Hotstar, Cars 24, Swisse, and more. Vinayak emphasized being consistent and patient. As being in the entertainment industry is not easy. One should keep on trying every day.

While discussing the shooting, Vinayak told that he suffered from setbacks during the shoots and it is really common for the actors to have these kinds of days. Talking more about this, Vinayak says,

“When you get a fictional content, you prepare the script according to your way. The way you have conceived the story, the way you understood the character sketch. You prepare and go on set. So I did content for Alt Balaji and I read the script the way they explained me. But when I reached the set after rehearsing and sat with the director, he was in a completely different zone. He wanted me to do something completely different than what I prepared.

At that point of I was just looking at my creative director about what’s happening here.  That day was tough for me. But you need to switch off from that character and need to switch onn to another. That is how acting is all about. It took an hour to get prepared for that character again. I tried to do the same way my director wanted me to do. At the end you have to deal with it.”

Vinayak told that in the coming days he will start shooting for his music video. Also, he will appear in a short film named Yeh Pal which will release on an OTT platform. Director Ashish Bhuyan will be directing the film.

When asked how he manages his personal life being a public figure, Vinayak replied that one should manage their social media in a proper way. It is all up to a person’s way how they manage it. If someone wants they can share their personal space on social media and then get into controversy.

Expressing his will to work with Amitabh Bachchan and director Anurag Basu, Vinayak mentions,

“My biggest dream was to work with Amitabh Bachchan, I luckily got a chance recently to work with him for a TVC. I always wanted to share the same screen with him.

Regarding directors, there are multiple directors I want to work with. I would like to work with Anurag Basu, as he is an amazing director. Whatever I have heard about him, he gives an actor ample space to play according to their choice. He just briefs you and then allows to play it in your way. That gives an edge or a extra confidence that they need to crack the scene anyhow.”
