by Sharbani Ghosh / Tuesday, 24 August 2021 / Published in Interviews

‘Food’, the word itself describes happiness, love, and tastiness. Hardly anyone can resist themselves after hearing this word! Some love to eat, cook and feed others and some love to explore different cuisines. Food blogging has always been the trend over the decades. Ankit Sharma, a food blogger from Delhi has also been a part of this delicious trend for the past 4 years, making his social media feed, mouth-watering with each passing day.

Though, being born and brought up in Delhi, his roots are from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. His inclining towards food is quite natural as his maternal grandfather was a confectioner in Amritsar. It is about a seventy to eighty years old shop.

The story behind his blogging journey somewhere ignited when he used to watch chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s show and also Zaika India Ka on NDTV back in 2011, where they used to explore places for different types of food.

“When I used to watch Zaika India Ka, the way they used to travel place to place in search of good food from streets to restaurants. Knowing about their cuisine or the legacy of their specific dishes or shop. That used to be most exciting for me.”

Ankit always wanted to do something like that back then. But like many Indian families, Ankit’s family was not being supportive. They wanted him to do a job which has a good income and security.

“After sharing my idea of being a blogger, they simply ignored me and were least bothered about what I want. In 2015 blogging was getting popular day by day. So many people were doing blogging and Youtube. I made my food blogging page back in January 2017.”

Initially, it was difficult for Ankit, he was not that good at clicking pictures of food. Also, he was a newbie without any idea and support. He simply used to post daily food pictures and trivia. He got his kick start from the picture he clicked in Hunar Haat which takes place every year in Delhi.

“I posted a picture of simple masala dosa on my Instagram feed. People liked it and my journey began. From there I never stopped and never looked back.”

Even after this, his parents were not supportive, seeing his passion which started paying off eventually convinced them. This started when Ankit started getting calls from food brands and companies for collaboration. One of his big-brand collaborations was with Pizza Hut in 2018.

“I got a call from them regarding a collab. I was not even aware that they will be paying me a good amount as well. It was a very awesome experience for me. And, my family is also happy now with my blogging.”

He is very fond of Indian street food. From Chole-Bhature to Matar-Kulche and many more. In the tenure of four years, he visited Mumbai, Gujarat, and Indore. He tasted many types of street food in these places. Misal-Pao, Vada-Pao in Mumbai. Dishes with the hint of sweetness in the cuisines of Gujarat and Indore like Dal-Bafla, Khakra, and many more. Talking about over-sea cuisines, he is more Italian.

When it comes to inspiration apart from Chef Sanjeev Kapoor for Ankit, Chef Vikas Khanna inspires him for the creativity of food. Along with him Chef Ranveer Brar, for the way he describes every item while cooking. And Chef Kunal Kapoor for his deep-down humble nature. Chef Vikas Khanna, being his favorite chef, Ankit also wants to visit his restaurant Junoon in New York.

“I already met them once. It was a dream come true moment for me. If I get a chance, I will surely work and collab with them.”
