Girls are considered to be ‘tomboys’ if they are sporty or have short hair or if they are just simply bold. Many find it unusual, most find it intimidating. Veegent redefines these stereotypes becoming India’s first transmale model.
The 19-year-old model was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He spent 15 years in Himachal Pradesh and after his father passed away, his family shifted to Delhi. Vee identified himself as a lesbian initially but after moving to Delhi, he found out about transgenders. He searched more about them and explored things about himself until finally changing his pronouns from ‘she’ to ‘he’.
Speaking About Gender Dysphoria
Gender dysphoria is the condition that causes distress due to a strong desire to be of another gender. Vee spoke about gender dysphoria and the obstacles he faced with it. “Dysphoria feels like being caged, not being in the correct body. It makes you anxious, makes you want to tear up the body parts you really hate. Not just your body, you begin to hate yourself. You don’t want to exist. I wanted to be accepted as a man and not have a vagina and breast.”, he said talking to FIT. Adding to that, he said that the mere thought of others staring at his breasts triggers him. Therefore, he wears binders to cope with that.
Uncovering Changes In Love and Sex
The model made his first girlfriend in 9th standard when he identified as a lesbian. His last girlfriend was also a lesbian but it didn’t work out because he is a man. Vee claims that he is extremely sex-positive. But dealing with dysphoria makes it tough for him to orgasm, although it happens when he is completely comfortable with someone.
Hormone Therapy and Changes
Veegent went through hormone therapy as a part of his transition. He started taking testosterone injections in 2020 and it caused many changes in his body. The first noticeable change was his voice as he claims. He says, “the feeling is euphoric when my friends say that my voice has changed a lot.”. He also posted about his voice progression on testosterone on Instagram and wrote in the caption how he hated his voice growing up which is why he became an introvert. The model also writes that he feels lucky to have a strong support system that appreciates and supports him all along the way.
Obstacles Faced Living The Life Of A Transgender
Veegent also spoke about the various challenges he has faced being a trans male. “Tu ladki hi hai”, is one comment you will see in most of my posts”, said the model on getting misgendered. On wearing nail paint, makeup, or skirts, people would question his gender. The actor said, “Bollywood has mostly misrepresented trans folk. Cast trans people, show their real struggles, not your perception of what their struggles are.”. Veegent has previously modeled for Gaurav Gupta Couture Show 2021 and has also been on the cover of GQ 2020.
