The globally famous fashion house, Gucci, has a dress-up for sale which looks remarkably familiar to an Indian kurta. Indian Twitter users have not been able to comment about it, ever since.
The Italian fashion brand put up ‘organic linen kaftan’ as the description on their website. It also has floral embroidery on it and costs $3,500. That is an estimated 2.5 lakhs!. Judging by the reactions on Twitter, Indians are not at all pleased by this, not just because of the cultural implications it has but also because of the price. Although, such a price is expected by an $18.5 billion evaluated company. One user wrote, “No offense but I won’t even buy it for 500.”. People did not shy away from passing humorous comments too.

One user said that Gucci is ‘scamming’ foreigners by charging a whopping $3500 when one can buy a better look from an Indian shop for $50. Moreover, in the 2018 Gucci runway show, models were dressed in turbans and hijabs. This caused a major backlash with Twitter users correcting them that turbans are significant to the Sikh religion.
