Brands like Universal Standard and ASOS Curve are leading the way by offering an extensive range of sizes that cater to different body shapes.
Universal Standard, for instance, provides clothing from size 00 to 40, ensuring that fashion is accessible to everyone. Their designs prioritise fit and comfort, celebrating individual body shapes and enhancing confidence. This inclusivity helps break down barriers and promotes a healthier, more realistic representation of beauty.
An honourable mention to Fenty by Rihanna and FentyXSavage who started to voice out the need for diversity and inclusivity with her makeup brand first, followed by multiple clothing segments where models of all genders, heights, and body weights, wore clothes made to fit them which was eventually sold in retail stores for the mass.
Embracing Gender Fluidity
Fashion is also embracing Gender fluidity, breaking away from traditional gender norms. Brands are increasingly launching gender-neutral collections, blurring the lines between menswear and womenswear. This movement allows individuals to express themselves freely, regardless of their gender identity.
Telfar, known for its iconic “Bushwick Birkin” bag, is a trailblazer in this space. The brand’s unisex clothing line emphasises inclusivity and accessibility. By focusing on versatile designs that can be worn by anyone, Telfar challenges the binary fashion norms and opens up a world of possibilities for personal expression.
Fashion for All Abilities
Inclusivity in fashion also means designing for people with disabilities. Adaptive fashion, which includes clothing with easy closures, adjustable features, and sensory-friendly fabrics, is gaining traction. This innovation ensures that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can enjoy stylish and functional clothing.
Tommy Hilfiger’s Adaptive is a notable example. The line features clothing with magnetic buttons, Velcro closures, and adjustable hems, making dressing easier for individuals with disabilities without compromising style. This approach not only addresses practical needs but also empowers individuals by providing them with fashionable choices.Â
