“Modeling is not only about looks or body structure”, Fashion Model, Abhijit Mhatre
Meet Abhijit Mhatre, from Mumbai. Besides, being a model and an actor, he is also a celebrity nutritionist and lifestyle designer. Abhijit is extremely dedicated to his work and is doing well in life. Also, he is a qualified psychotherapist, an image consultant, and a wardrobe consultant for a complete personality makeover. Being a multi-tasker, when asked Abhijit about his time management he says,
“I do face time management issues some time. I have a fitnes studio, AM Fitness and a consulting centre in Mumbai. My staff manages the consulting centre and according to schedule, I manage consulting three times in a week. Similarly, meetings and shoots if scheduled two-three days before then I manage accordingly. Otherwise it becomes very difficult for me to do shoots”.
Abhijit’s modeling journey started in 2010. Then Abhijit was working as a scientific officer in the Reliance research center. He saw an advertisement in the newspaper about the making of a modeling portfolio. Abhijit was completely raw about the industry.
“It was in 2010 when I did my portfolio. It was a very basic one. But at that time competition was not so fierce so I used to get calls. I got shortlisted for Fragrancia perfume shoot but my portfolio was not professional enough to get selected. There was one photographer, he did my portfolio shoot professionally. As a result, I got selected for the shoot. Then, I did a trimmer ad for a Dubai based company, Geepas Trimmer”.
Now, Abhijit is well versed in the working of the modeling industry. He feels that the industry is working smoothly. Also, he said, female modeling is extremely professional and they have more works. In male modeling, there is no momentum work. He went to Milan for shoots. There he noticed Indian models are the most beautiful in the world. There is more scope in female modeling. Abhijit also feels that there should be a formal association for the modeling industry. Adding to which he said,
“If there is anyone who wants to be a model, there is no guidelines regarding to it. There is no specific field in the modeling. People usually perceives modeling is only doing rampwalks. But modeling is much more than this. However, there is no way to formally represent it, especially for male models”.
Abhijit has been a part of several projects as a model. He has worked with brands like Hairer India, Panache Runaway, Spabulous spa, and many more. Moreover, he had walked fashion ramp for Uttarakhand fashion week, Asian Couture Runaway, Dulha collections, Rajasthan Fashion, and the list goes on. Also, he had worked with ace fashion designers of India. Being a nutritionist, Abhijit follows a strict diet. He loves pizza, chocolates, and samosas and has it once in fifteen days. Even, in hotels, he prefers only steam foods or a light meal. His aim is to follow a diet in moderation, not very stringent not very lenient for a lifetime. Talking further on healthy diet routine, Abhijit mentioned,
“There are many actors promoting processed foods through advertisements which are not recommended by any doctors. I would like to suggest models and actors to have the responsibilty about thier endorsements. They should not do ads only for money. So, if these kind of advertisemnts stops, the wrong impression of food on the audience will stop auomatically”.

As a child, Abhijit was very skinny. Others used to bully him because of his physique. He was an introverted person back then. He took those criticisms as a stepping stone. Abhijit improved on himself and came out better. He considers his discipline as his greatest strength. Abhijit is very particular about his actions and tries to be a role model for aspiring models. He is away from alcohol, smoking, parties, and other addictions. Being in Mumbai, it is not very easy to be away from night parties. But Abhijit is strong-willed about his actions.
Recently, Abhijit worked with three renowned fashion designers. He has traveled to many places for shoots. One thing which he considers the most challenging part of being a model is the wrong perception of people.
“People think that we are always groomed and look perfect everytime. Though it is not always like this. Whenever they see me casually, they always question my look. People do not understand that we cannot look perfect everytime. They need to understand we are also a common people. This is the toughest part of being a model”.
In the future, Abhijit wishes to do international television commercials. He is a dog lover. His dream is to buy a farm for dogs. Abhijit is fond of traveling to wildlife parks and would like to spend his quality time with animals.
Presently, there is cut-throat competition in the modeling industry. People are actually struggling to survive in this industry. For this Abhijit gave his suggestions to aspiring models by saying,
“Modeling is not only about looks or body structure. Mostly it is about being confident in the way one is. Do not hesitate to invest in professional portfolio. I have wasted two-three years in the beginning because of the unprofessional portfolio. Professional portfolio will get one good leads and casting. Also, be aware of the fake casting calls and agencies”.
