Implicit And Explicit Occupational Gender Stereotypes

by WMH-India / Wednesday, 13 January 2021 / Published in Blog
Who wears what, rewrite the rules!?
Break the boundary, celebrate the ways to couture blurs which are made between men’s and women’s clothing. The society delivers this message since our birth. But, sometimes the society already decides what a girl and a boy should wear. When an infant girl is born, swaddle them in pink and for a boy in blue. These gender stereotypes in fashion have made cliches fall easily from our lips. Like boys wear pants, clothes make the man, or who wears pants. This signal dominance has made a basic purpose of the costume to distinguish between men and women. Here, all are best off in an era of gender fluidity. The young generation has broken this binary wall wayside which is made for men/women. Due to which the gender stereotypes in fashion have followed the fashion suit and men should wear regalia with a false beard. Here the subject is gender and from that fashion has taken a particular immediacy in the current setting, especially with LGBTQIA+. Their right has impacted social media both in community building and self-identification.

Why Unisex dressing would not let them as a passing trend?

Suits are not designed or specifically fitted or purposely oversized for only men. Instead, somebody made it somewhere in between. With discussion in gender stereotypes in fashion have currently forefront the fashion, it seems like widely outdated concepts and categorized them by gender, and gender only. When it comes to sex and gender they have never been binary. So why do we hold fashion to a different standard? Many attempts were made to break the stereotypes, but to segregate men’s clothing from women’s excludes a portion of people who do not understand the gender constraints. By dividing fashion, self-expression through fashion is limited. But it would not last long as the mirror of the social categorization lack people alignment.

Gender Rules- Rocking tunics or Aesthetics- what matters first?

Starting from hunting, running, and sleeping clothing, they shaped dresses organically. The gender rules of clothing fashion had transformed the Middle ages into rocking tunics to caring but what about the aesthetics outfits? This gender stereotype in fashion has distinguished made lines where men’s tunics were traditionally knee-length whereas women’s tunics to the floor. This specifies the gender stereotype in the fashion in clothing.

Gender Makers

They mark some dresses for genders like a corset, foot binding, interest in fashion, a codpiece, and maternity apparel. In the past years, society has accused women of being excessively in fashion. But, through research, many men were also extremely interested in fashion.

Conclusion:

Girls wear pink and boy blue. Girls wear dresses and boys wear suits. These are some gender stereotypes in a fashion that is associated with an “image”. For the past, these stereotypes have been very strong and very rarely follow the cross-dress. But in today’s world, those lines are becoming stronger day-by-day. These fashion trends throughout all of them have made different trends for each gender. As an example, men wear suits during the week and wear shirts or slacks on weekends. Whereas women wear dresses and pearls each day but look pretty when they get-together. If you look back the differences are not so clear anymore. There are no specific trends left out which say about fashion stereotypes according to gender anymore. Fashion trends are not becoming comparable both for men and women. As clothing brands are lazy to make their clothing gender-fluid for a reason. In today’s world or society, dressing like a girl or boy is not a such strict thing. But fashion is fluid, just like in gender. So, gender does not matter as long as how masculine or feminine you are. The dress decides it, not the gender stereotypes.
