We all talk about women’s empowerment on a day-to-day basis but how many of us actually try to empower them? We see married women giving up on their careers quite often. But, today we interviewed a woman who is empowering herself with the help of her family. Meet Amaani Satrala, from the small town Derabassi in Punjab. She has carved out a niche in the fashion industry with her passion and dedication. Having faced a lot of rejection and criticism from the people, she never lost hope and stood true to her dreams. Sharing a lot about her modeling career, Amaani says,
“It has boosted my confidence to another level. I am very grateful for what modeling has given me. Though I have been into the industry for over a decade now, I feel I haven’t achieved a lot as others did. But I am satisfied with what I have. Earlier I was not able to able to speak in front of people, now I can speak and communicate with them that is a good growth for me.”
Talking about her initial journey, Amaani told that after doing her MBA, she got married and shifted to Mumbai with her husband. The idea of modeling always fascinated her. Amaani’s husband is also an actor and has his own production company. So when she used to visit the shoot location of her husband, she used to enjoy it. Later, she started getting offers as a casting director noticed her vibrant personality. But her family had objections. Adding to which, she says,
“I did an inter-caste marriage and being a Sikh Jatt, my family was not so happy and did not support us for marriage. Gradually, everything is sorted between our families. But when I started modeling they had objections. They also asked me whether I married him just because I wanted to get into modeling. My friend also thought the same. To be honest, this was not the case. I got offers organically, so I did not deny it. You always plan different things but God has some other plans for you.”
Amaani started her career by playing the role of a cop in the most famous crime thriller television show “C.I.D”. The first episode of that show was not less than a shock to her family. She later continued to follow her passion and did a lot of shows, shoots, and even movies. She has worked with many well designers from the industry like Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, and many more. Her debut movie was ‘karle pyaar karle’ directed by Suneel Darshan. Amaani revealed that she will soon appear in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming movie. Though her role is short but is quite impactful and she has expectations from it.
“I got this role as casting director Gaurav Shah approached me. I have given a lot of auditions before. So Gaurav sir must have cast me in one of them. After around 1 and a half years, I received a call for a movie’s audition. I went there and gave the audition but then did not hear from them. Then in January 2020, I was again called for an audition so I had the least expectations as I was not selceted the pevious time as well. Though, luckily I got selected for this movie.”

Amaani also did an advertisement for the jewelry brand ‘Kalyan Jewelers‘ opposite superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. She feels lucky to have worked with such a legendary actor. So sharing her experience of working with him, Amaani tells,
“I noticed that Amitabh Sir has more energy than us. He was so energetic during the shoot, we use to feel tired at times but he comes to set in such a way that it brings positive vibes. The biggest thing was when director introduced us, he was the most down earth person. When he met me he greeted with ‘Namaskar srimati ji’ in his own way. I felt so good and shocked. He gave the equal treatment to everyone and made us feel so comfortable.”
Dealing with rejections and criticism, Amaani mentioned that she has faced a lot of them. She did not take it very seriously but tried to improve herself. Also, she kept working hard and moving ahead. Her husband has been a pillar of support and pushed her to do better each day. Amaani is very grateful to her husband for believing in her.
Amaani is now a mother of a 4-month-old baby girl named Rehmat Kaur Satrala. She will be getting back to work and concentrating on her career from September. She has been getting quite a few calls from shoots and all. Elaborating she says,
“My husband has supported me throughout and I am sure he will keep on supporting me. Whenever I go for a shoot, I will make sure someone close and familiar is there to look after my child. Even if I have to go early morning. I am not resuming it now just because I do not want anyone to raise fingures on me as I am not giving my 100 percent on shoots. I am waiting for my child to grow a little so that she does not have any problem with that.”
Sharing her fitness mantra, Amaani told that she is very strict with her workout. Irrespective of which field you work in one should stay fit. Although for her being a fashion model it is very important for her.
“During the lockdown aswell I use to take out at least one hour from my strict routine for working out. I stay away from junk food and stay hydrated. I follow a proper diet and even I used to go for shows I carried my own food. If you keep on having cheat days then there is no way you can stay fit.”
